An Interview with Carpet One's Terri Daniels
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, making it an important time for Carpet One Floor & Home members and staff. One in 8 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States, an alarming statistic. Carpet One Floor & Home and its broader CCA Global Partners family have not been immune to this disease. Employees and members alike have had their lives affected by it, thus sparking a company-wide pursuit to find a cure!
Each October, Carpet One launches a new pink ribbon welcome mat campaign that generates awareness and raises money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. These exclusive mats are available in select Carpet One stores for the entire year.
"Since its inception in 2004, we've funded nearly 10,000 hours of life-saving research," says Terri Daniels, Vice President of PR, Social Media, Content and Communications. No one understands the power of this program more than she does, so we sat down with her to learn more.
As a 25-year veteran of the flooring and home design industry, Terri leads the Pink Ribbon Welcome a Cure program alongside her team to produce beautiful and unique welcome mat designs that are sold with 25% of the proceeds benefiting the foundation.
In addition to Welcome a Cure, Terri is responsible for organic social media, public relations, content, and communications for the retail divisions of CCA Global Partners. We sat down with her to ask a few questions about this year's most recent Welcome a Cure Collection designed by interior design mogul Vern Yip of HGTV.
Tell us about this new collection and what makes this launch special?
We've teamed up with interior designer Vern Yip whose extensive reach and influence will help us amplify our voice and increase awareness about the cause. He is one of HGTV's most recognizable designers. He is best- known for designing his way across America, knocking down walls, and making over countless homes during four seasons on the original run of TLC's Trading Spaces and over ten years of appearances on HGTV.
What were some of the inspirations behind Vern's designs?
Vern Yip has designed our entire 2021 collection of pink ribbon welcome mats. The collection reflects the challenges, hope, and support for breast cancer patients and their families. He created each mat with an eye for design and a heart full of appreciation and empathy for breast cancer individuals and families. What makes this collection extra special is the inspiration behind each mat.
His dog mat represents a dog's unconditional love which provides support and acts as our best stress management tool. The idea behind his laurel wreath design came from the notion that the laurel wreath is the most recognized symbol for peace, not only within ourselves but throughout all aspects of our lives. His “No Place Like Home” mat showcases how the home is where the most important moments of our lives with friends and family unfold. Vern’s sun mat represents a beacon of hope and a tool that helps us stay positive and strong. For his fifth mat, Vern designed a quatrefoil pattern as it is a timeless shape that's been integrated throughout design, symbolizing unity and the power of a supportive community. His tiger stripe mat reflects strength and is a fashion-forward statement for all fashion-conscious, who support the fight against breast cancer.

The Carpet One Welcome a Cure campaign assists a long-time charitable partner: the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Through the sales of pink ribbon welcome mats, Carpet One Floor & Home supports BCRF in its mission to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world's most promising research.
So much of what you are doing is giving back in a big way. Can you tell us about the impacts your Welcome Mats have made over the years?
With each pink ribbon mat sold, 25% of the purchase price will go to BCRF. To date, we've funded 9,400 hours of life-saving research through our partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, making an incredible difference in the lives of those fighting breast cancer. Thanks to partners like us, the BCRF funds researchers worldwide who work hard every day to find new treatments, learn more about the causes of breast cancer, and find new ways to detect breast cancer early.
